FINGER LAKES ARTIST
Susan Wake is a natural born artist who's work has grown tremendously since picking up a brush seven years ago. Her style is eclectic; she has been deemed a folk artist, a fine art artist, a historic artist, a story telling artist and one of the finest Finger Lakes Artists.
Her work reflects her love of Western New York by virtue of her many landscapes and paintings of the Finger Lakes. She works in a number of mediums in both 2D and 3D employing acrylic, watercolor, pastel and oil to achieve her amazing results. She is detail conscious, loves waterscapes and completes her work in the European Style as noted by learned reviewers.
She calls upon her treasure trove of personal experiences garnered during her formative years in a picturesque Victorian Village, Island Heights, located at the Jersey Shore on the banks of the Toms River in New Jersey. Island Heights has been compared with Martha's Vineyard and is home to a collection of notable artists including Peto.
Susan has reaped a number of awards and in 2010 was the recipient of the Artist Crossroads Grant to produce two mural size paintings based on two watershed historical events that occurred in the 19th century in the Finger Lakes. The project "The Signs of Past Times" was on traveling exhibit July through December of 2010 at many public venues throughout our area. The paintings as well as the accompanying text is now part of the permanent collection of the Howard Museum, in Historic Howard, NY.
Susan was one of the intial cadre of artists to participate in the Palettes of Keuka and continues to do so. She has successfully completed a number of commissions exceeding
her patrons expectations.
Most recently Susan has exhibited at The Hammondsport Art Show, 2011 Hornell Home Show, The Steuben County Fair (2004 - 2011). She has had two solo shows at the Steuben Trust Headquarters (2009 & 2010) in Hornell, NY and a solo show at the Dormann Library in Bath, NY. Memberships include The ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes and the Hornell Area Arts Council.
